Hello, I’m Gillian.
A curious mind. A love of stories.
I write as Gillian Blakes. I’m a Canadian author, painter, and music lover. Creating has always given my curiosity somewhere to go—sometimes into a story, sometimes onto a canvas, and sometimes into music.
Why “Gibs Gives Tips”?
The name “Gibs Gives Tips” reflects what I hope my stories offer: little ideas about kindness, patience, curiosity, and working towards a dream. I hope my books give children something helpful to carry into everyday life—and give grown-ups a starting point for a good conversation.Curiosity, on and off the page.
I hold a master’s degree in psychology and have researched the cognitive benefits of music learning in children and adults. That interest in how we learn and experience the world is one part of my creative life. Another is my family. Time with my nephews inspires my writing for young readers, and the everyday moments we share can open the door to a story.Stories for little readers. New pages for grown-ups.
My children’s collection invites readers into colourful worlds, playful possibilities, and conversations to share. I’m also writing a book for adults, and I’m looking forward to introducing that part of my work when it’s ready.A few things about me
